Thick, thin, crispy or chewy. No matter how you like your pie, pizza is food for the soul. Like soup on a cold day, it warms the heart and can satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Looking for recommendations on some of Greensboro’s best places for pie? The Gate City has a fair share of eateries that will make venturing outside your neighborhood well worth the drive.
The Traditionalist: Cugino Forno 1160 Revolution Mill Drive, Greensboro, NC 27405
This place is legit the real deal of Italian pizzerias. Located in the redeveloped Cone Mills complex, it is defined by simplicity, quality and amazing Neapolitan style pies. Here's what you won't get: funky, somewhat crazy combinations for toppings. However, what you will find once inside this bright and airy space is authenticity. The menu offers simple options that allow the quality of ingredients to speak for themselves, with favorites such as Margeritha D.O.P., Pomodora and Supremo Italiano. The dough ismade with imported Italian 00 flour, sauce from San Marzano tomatoes and the freshest cheese around. The wood-fired ovens give the pizza’s just the right amount of crisp while reserving the flavors of the ingredients. With a DIY accoutrement bar of dried herbs and oils, 12 flavors of imported Italian Gelato, amazing salads, beer, wine, Cugino’s was love at first bite!

The Innovator: Sticks and Stones 220 Walker Ave., Greensboro, NC 27403
Eclectic, warm, funky, charming. Sticks is one of my favorite hot spots located in the quaint neighborhood of Lindley Park. With an awesome variety of craft brews and a menu featuring many locally sourced items such as cheeses, produce and proteins; it’s a win-win for all! In case you have a fear of missing out, they also allow you to split your pie half and half. From the New York, New York, Easy Plateau to the Sweet Carolina, you simply can't go wrong. Seating is limited, so if you plan on heading down during peak hours, put your name on the list and walk over to BestWay to peruse their wall of beer while you are waiting.

The Unexpected: Embur Fire and Fusion Address: 107 Smyres Place, Greensboro, NC,27403
Words do not do this place justice which lends a hand to it being my latest obsession! The level of detail and attention to their menu is a sign that shows just how much care is provided to the customers. By blending together Peruvian roots with Italian influences, the owner and executive chef take guests on a culinary trip by offering fresh ingredients and interesting options that you simply can’t find in many area restaurants. With everything on the menu being moderately priced, including their pies, it is easy to order several options along with other great traditional items, such as Yuquitas a la Huancaina (fried Yucca) that showcase flavors from Peru. Located near the Westerwood neighborhood close to downtown and the Friendly Center, it’s a short drive that is well worth the visit.
